SIOTO is the training standard for the inflatable rental industry. Bounce World operators are SIOTO certified — here is what that actually means when a truck pulls up to your house.
SIOTO stands for the Safe Inflatable Operators Training Organization. It is the inflatable industry's operator training and certification program, built from the guidance of ASTM International, the CPSC and the NFPA together with manufacturers and safety professionals. A SIOTO certified company has put its people through documented training on anchoring, setup, government rules and rider supervision — and can display the SIOTO seal. Bounce World is SIOTO certified.
What the training actually covers
SIOTO training is not a marketing badge you buy. It is coursework with a test at the end, and it walks an operator through the full life of a rental:
- Preliminary reservation questions — the things a company should ask you before taking your money: gate width, surface, power distance, slope, overhead lines.
- Staking and anchoring requirements — how many anchors, how deep, at what angle, and what to do when you cannot stake at all.
- Government guidelines — the federal and state-level rules that apply to inflatable amusement devices.
- Setup procedures — blower placement, cord runs, clearance, entrance and exit padding, and how the unit is inspected before anyone gets in.
- Supervision and rider rules — age and size separation, occupancy limits, and who is responsible for watching the unit once it is inflated.
Basic and advanced
SIOTO runs two tiers. The basic certification covers standard moonwalks and bounce houses. The advanced certification — which requires completing the basic level first — covers high-level slides and interactive units, the equipment where a bad anchor or a bad setup has real consequences. Training is delivered online and self-paced through SIOTO's training portal, with a test and a certificate at the end.
What it changes on your driveway
The difference shows up in the boring details.
- Anchors — a trained crew does not "put a few stakes in." Anchor count and placement follow the manufacturer's specification for that unit.
- Hard surfaces — no stakes means sandbags rated for the job, not whatever is in the truck.
- Blowers and power — a dedicated 20-amp circuit per blower, cords run so nobody trips and nothing gets unplugged mid-jump.
- Entrance and exit — the highest-injury zone on any inflatable, and the reason ASTM added impact-attenuation requirements there.
- Handover — you get told the rules, the weight and rider limits, and what to do if the wind picks up.
None of that is visible in a photo of a bounce house. It is the entire difference between a safe rental and a lucky one.
How to check any rental company
Ask three questions before you book anyone — us included:
- Are your operators certified, and by whom? A real answer names an organization. "We've been doing this 20 years" is not a certification.
- Can you send a certificate of insurance naming my venue? If they hesitate, they either have no policy or no coverage that applies to your site.
- How will you anchor on my surface? Grass, concrete, turf and indoor floors each need a different answer. If they do not ask what your surface is, they are guessing.

Is SIOTO certification required by law?
No. SIOTO is an industry training credential, not a government license. It is voluntary — which is exactly why it tells you something. A company that pays for optional safety training is telling you where its priorities sit.
Who created SIOTO's curriculum?
SIOTO builds its coursework with input from industry professionals, safety experts and manufacturers, drawing on the published guidance of ASTM International, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the NFPA.
Does SIOTO certification cover the equipment or the people?
The people. SIOTO certifies operators — the humans who set up, anchor and supervise the equipment. Equipment safety is governed separately by the manufacturing and operating standard ASTM F2374.
Is Bounce World SIOTO certified?
Yes. Bounce World operators are SIOTO certified, carry $1,000,000 in general liability coverage, and are on the Jefferson Parish Recreation Department's approved vendor list.
