The four layers that actually make a rental safe
Safety in this industry is not one thing. It is four, and a company can pass on one while failing badly on another.
- The equipment — built and maintained to ASTM F2374, the standard covering design, manufacture, operation and maintenance of inflatable amusement devices.
- The people — SIOTO certified operators who know how many anchors a unit takes, how deep they go, and what to do when the surface will not take a stake.
- The paperwork — $1,000,000 in general liability coverage, and a certificate that can name your venue when the venue requires it.
- The supervision — an adult watching the unit, enforcing the rider rules, and shutting it down when the wind picks up. That part stays with you, and no certification replaces it.
How to vet any rental company
Three questions. Ask us too.
- "Are your operators certified, and by whom?" A real answer names an organization and a level. "Twenty years of experience" is not a certification.
- "Can you send a certificate of insurance naming my venue?" Hesitation here means no policy, or no policy that applies to your site.
- "How will you anchor on my surface?" Grass, concrete, turf and indoor floors each need a different answer. A company that never asks what your surface is has not thought about it.
A logo on a website means dues were paid. A certification means somebody sat an exam. Plenty of sites blur that line deliberately — here is how to tell them apart.
What we ask of you
Our end is training, equipment and coverage. Yours is the site and the supervision. Before delivery day, we need to know your gate width (36 inches minimum for bounce houses, 42 for larger games), your surface, how far the setup spot is from power (within 100 feet) and water (within 50 feet), and what is overhead — trees, power lines, balconies. Is Bounce World certified and insured?
Yes. Our operators are SIOTO certified, our team has completed Inflatable Operators Association safety training, we carry $1,000,000 per occurrence general liability coverage, and we are on the Jefferson Parish Recreation Department's approved vendor list for spacewalk and party play equipment.
What safety standard applies to bounce houses?
ASTM F2374, the Standard Practice for Design, Manufacture, Operation, and Maintenance of Inflatable Amusement Devices. The current revision is F2374-24. It is a voluntary consensus standard, enforceable where a jurisdiction, venue or insurer adopts it.
Can you name my venue on your insurance?
Yes. Send us the venue's exact legal name and mailing address, whether they need certificate holder or additional insured status, and any wording their contract requires. Allow at least a week before the event.
What makes a bounce house unsafe?
Overwhelmingly: inadequate anchoring in wind, and unsupervised riders of mixed sizes. Those two account for most serious incidents. Everything on this page exists to address one or the other.
Who supervises the inflatable during my party?
You do. A responsible adult must watch the unit whenever riders are on it, separate riders by size, enforce the occupancy and weight limits, and shut it down in high wind. That responsibility does not transfer to the rental company.
