The Inflatable Operators Association
Most industries have a body that writes the rules and lobbies for the people who follow them. For inflatable rentals, that body is the IOA.
The Inflatable Operators Association (IOA) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit trade association for the inflatable amusement device rental industry. In its own words, it "exists to provide the resources, representation, and communication for establishing important risk management and safety standards for inflatable amusement devices." Members are required to operate in accordance with ASTM F2374, the standard governing inflatable design, manufacture, operation and maintenance. Bounce World's team has completed IOA safety training.
Why a trade association matters to you
Inflatable rentals sit in a regulatory gap. Requirements vary enormously from state to state, and enforcement varies more. That gap gets filled one of two ways: by an industry that self-organizes around a written standard, or by nobody at all.
The IOA is the self-organizing part. It puts operators in the room where the standards get written — the association participates in NAARSO, IAAPA and the ASTM F2374 committee work directly. The rules that govern how your bounce house is anchored are shaped, in part, by operators who showed up.
What the IOA requires of members
- Operate to ASTM F2374. Not "be aware of it" — operate to it. That covers anchoring, setup, maintenance and attendant supervision.
- Build a safety culture. The association's stated focus is developing safety culture and compliance inside member businesses, not just issuing a logo.
- Stay current. Standards get revised. Members are expected to keep up with them.
The Inflatable Safety Conference
The IOA runs an annual Inflatable Safety Conference & Amusement Expo — safety training, business education and roughly 60,000 square feet of exhibitor space where manufacturers show what is new. The 2027 conference runs February 1–4, 2027 in Lebanon, Tennessee, outside Nashville. It is where a lot of the industry's practical safety knowledge actually gets transmitted.

Is the IOA a government agency?
No. The IOA is a nonprofit trade association — a 501(c)(6). It has no enforcement power. Its influence comes from setting expectations for its members and from participating in the standards bodies that state regulators cite.
Does IOA membership mean a company is safe?
It means the company has committed to operating under ASTM F2374 and has chosen to associate itself with an organization that expects that. It is one signal among several. Certification of the actual operators — see SIOTO — and proof of insurance are the other two you should ask for.
